About the Island

Welcome to Guraidhoo

Guraidhoo offers a quieter, more authentic alternative to nearby Maafushi. Located just 35 kilometres south of Malé in South Malé Atoll, this traditional fishing island has embraced tourism while maintaining its peaceful character and tight-knit community atmosphere.

The island's bikini beach is one of the finest in the local island circuit — a long stretch of pale sand with excellent swimming conditions and impressive house reef snorkelling just metres away. The coral reef wrapping the island's southern tip is particularly rich, with regular turtle sightings and a resident population of blacktip reef sharks.

Guesthouses on Guraidhoo tend to be smaller and more personal than those on Maafushi, run directly by local families. The café strip is modest but offers genuine Maldivian hospitality, and the slower pace of life here makes it particularly well-suited to travellers seeking a genuinely relaxing island experience rather than a busy tourism hub.

🦈

Shark Point Snorkelling

The southern tip of the island hosts a reliable gathering of blacktip reef sharks in the shallow channel — observable from the surface at snorkelling depth.
