About the Island

Welcome to Thoddoo

Thoddoo carries a charming nickname — "The Watermelon Island" — earned through generations of agricultural tradition. This large, fertile island in Alif Alif Atoll is the most productive agricultural island in the Maldives, famous across the country for its sweet watermelons, papayas, and vegetables grown in verdant plots that cover much of the island's interior.

The contrast of lush greenery against white beaches and turquoise water gives Thoddoo a visual character entirely unlike the flat, palm-fringed silhouette of most Maldivian islands. Wide shaded pathways lead through fruit groves to beaches of exceptional quality, and the house reef is one of the healthiest in the atolls.

The diving around Thoddoo is spectacular, particularly the nearby thilas (underwater pinnacles) which host dense aggregations of fish life, resident nurse sharks, and occasional hammerhead visits. For non-divers, the shallow lagoon and excellent snorkelling more than compensate.
